We utilize two systems for whitening your teeth:
- Zoom
- Custom-made “take-home” trays
The Zoom system takes place in the office and involves a two-hour appointment. It has to be followed up with take-home trays. Generally, with the trays, 10- to 11 ½-hour sessions will lighten teeth five to six shades.
The difference between the trays and over-the-counter products is the length of time between whitening. Touchups are one or two times a year with the trays!
Many patients ask about the difference between the dentist’s tooth whitening procedures and over-the-counter procedures (white strips, etc.). Most importantly, the ingredients are different, making a difference in the longevity of the whitening.
The majority of people who use the over-the-counter products find it difficult to keep a “saran wrap” material on their teeth for a few hours over an extended period of time. The clear forms the dentist makes are placed over your teeth and are custom-fit and worn at night, preferably.
