A good night’s sleep is more important than you may think and if you are not getting the rest you need, our dentists may be able to help with a sleep apnea appliance. To learn more, call Aesthetic Dentistry at 843-524-6410 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Gene Grace or Dr. Katherine Grace Hefner.

Sleep apnea can be very frightening for you and your partner. This condition causes you to stop breathing while asleep, which in turn causes you to be restless and snore. This snoring can disrupt your rest as well as your significant other’s. It can also cause serious health problems, which is why Aesthetic Dentistry in Beaufort helps patients with this troublesome condition. When you stop breathing during your slumber, your body is starved of oxygen, leading to a variety of issues associated with sleep apnea, including:

  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Excessive sleepiness when awake
  • Heart disease
  • Decreased libido
  • High blood pressure
  • Mental fog
  • Stroke
  • Worsening of ADHD

We will fit you with the appropriate sleep appliance to help alleviate your symptoms and get you a good night’s rest. The sooner you seek treatment, the better, as you can avoid many of the concerning issues listed above.

Sleep Appliances
We have had good success (according to our patients — and their spouses) with our snoring appliances. Reports include less snoring, feeling better in the morning and overall better sleep.
We don’t claim to cure sleep apnea. The sleep appliance is best for those patients who simply can’t adapt to the CPAP machine and who are diagnosed with mild sleep apnea by a physician.

Reduce Your Snoring & Improve Your Health
Did you know that snoring causes health problems, too? When you spend the night sawing wood, you are actually having difficulty breathing. Your airway is restricted, which can cause the same health issues listed above. Excessive snoring is caused by several things, including:

  • Alcohol consumption
  • Esophageal reflux or GERD
  • Excessive tiredness
  • Hypertension
  • Obesity
  • Smoking

We have a treatment for this problem, too, so if you suffer from either or both of these conditions, we’re happy to discuss your concerns and come up with an effective treatment plan for your sleep apnea in Beaufort, South Carolina.

Testimonials:

I originally talked to Dr. Grace about the snore guard because I was waking up in the night with intense headaches. I also began physical therapy for my neck about the same time that I started using the snore guard, so it is difficult for me to say whether the snore guard has made a difference or the therapy. But the frequency of my headaches has lessoned dramatically. What I can say for sure is that I no longer wake myself up in the night snoring, so I am sleeping more peacefully. My spouse is sleeping more peacefully and I no longer wake up with a dry mouth. – D. Sams

Due to Obstructive Sleep Apnea caused by my tongue obstructing my airway during sleep, my doctor prescribed an oral appliance. Dr Grace fitted me for the Silent Nite appliance. The first night I wore it was the first night that my husband got a full night’s sleep. It was an instant change for us and I am now sleeping better and not waking up in the middle of the night feeling as if I am suffocating. I was shocked at how quickly it solved the problem and was grateful not to have to use a C-pap or undergo surgery. – Vicki S.
